This WebQuest helps students explore Balıkesir, a unique city connecting the Aegean and Marmara regions, while using English in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

Students work collaboratively to research different districts and create a professional digital travel guide.

👋 Introduction

Welcome, Explorers!

Imagine that you are local tour guides from Balıkesir. A group of foreign visitors is coming to your city, and they want to learn more about its nature, sea, culture, and food.

Your mission is to introduce Balıkesir to them and explain why it is a special and beautiful place to visit in Türkiye.

🎯 Task

Each group member takes one role, but all roles focus on the same selected district or attraction.

🍯 The Foodie
Research the most famous local dishes of the chosen district.
Describe the ingredients, taste, and local importance in short English texts.
Add 1–2 interesting facts about the food.
Include photos or visuals.
🏛️ The Historian
Research the history of the chosen district or attraction.
Focus on ancient sites, important buildings, or Kuvayi Milliye history if available.
Write short and clear historical descriptions in English.
Include photos, maps, or timelines.
🌿 The Nature Lover
Explore the natural attractions of the chosen district.
Focus on places such as mountains, lakes, parks, or wildlife areas.
Explain why these places are worth visiting.
Add nature photos and possible outdoor activities.
🎨 The Designer
Design the visuals of the poster or presentation.
Choose suitable colors, fonts, and images.
Organize the content clearly and creatively.
Make the final product attractive and easy to understand.

🚀 Process

1. Form groups of 3–4 students.
2. Choose one district or attraction of Balıkesir.
3. Use the following or other online resources to collect information:

    • Ayvalık Municipality Guide
4. Write short texts in English using your own words.
5. Prepare a digital presentation or poster.
6. Present your travel guide to the class.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Use of English Fluent and accurate use of grammar and vocabulary. Clear English with minor errors. Frequent errors that hinder meaning.
Accuracy of Information Information is fully accurate and well-researched. Mostly accurate with minor missing details. Inaccurate or very limited information.
Group Participation All members contributed equally and worked as a team. Most members contributed effectively. Uneven participation within the group.
Creativity & Visual Design Highly creative, professional layout and visuals. Good design and clear organization. Plain design with little effort in visuals.
Presentation Skills Clear voice, eye contact, and engaging delivery. Clear delivery with minor confidence issues. Hard to hear or poorly organized presentation.
